The plural of sher is ashaar and the plural of qataa is qataat. The main and perhaps the only forms of chhand in Urdu are sher (couplet), and qataa ( chatushpadee/four-liners). A naghma is a geet or nazm that one sings. It corresponds to kavita in Hindi and consists of units. Styles of Urdu PoetryĪ nazm is a poem that can have any structure. The most common styles used in Urdu poetry are ghazal, qataa, rubaayee and nazm. In contrast to contemporary Hindi poetry, mukt-kavita or azaad-nazm is not very common in Urdu.
